Tax Fairness Oregon works to raise awareness among our Oregon legislators about tax fairness issues. We review proposed legislation and lobby our legislators in Salem in the interests of the common good. We follow the meetings of the Revenue Restructuring Task Force, a formal citizen/legislator committee appointed by the governor. The group is chartered to make recommendations to the 2011 Legislature. We attend to protect the interests of the average citizen and wage earner by raising questions with individual members of the committee and present ideas as we see fit.
We make recommendations to the Legislature on certain core issues. Currently, these include:
- Reform the tax code for fairness
- Ensure the wealthiest Oregonians and wealthy corporations are paying their fair share of taxes
- Measures 66 & 67 (tax on large corporations and the wealthy, now passed)
- Ensure a robust Inheritance Tax (Estate Tax)
- Ensure that hard-earned income earners are not paying more than their fair share of taxes
- Advocate for progressive taxation (graduated tax rates)
- Resist regressive taxes (sales and excise taxes)
- Ensure the wealthiest Oregonians and wealthy corporations are paying their fair share of taxes
- Ensure adequate revenue collection
- Rainy Day Fund
- Tax enforcement
- Review new and existing tax proposals
- Eliminate wasteful spending that benefits special interests at the expense of average Oregonians
- Review tax credits to business and special interest groups
- Ensure working families get their fair share of tax credits (Child Credit and Earned Income Tax Credits)
