Summary: Tax Fairness Oregon believes that Congress should—at the very least—permanently extend the federal estate tax at 2009 levels to preserve resources for priority investments and for deficit reduction.
Furthermore, given our country’s urgent needs today, Congress should consider proposals that ask more of wealthy households than do the 2009 terms.
Three Options:
Option 1. Reinstate the federal estate tax at 2009 levels
Option 2. Let the 2001 law return, as it will on January 1, 2011, with no Congressional action.
Option 3. Proposed Legislation
A) Sander’s S 3533, Sanchez HB 5764
B) Jim McDermott’s HR 2023.
